This project has been undertaken as part of Phase 2 of the Migration Statistics Improvement Programme.
Plausibility ranges have been developed combining available administrative data sources to set an upper and lower limit within which population estimates might reasonably be expected to fall.
The research report explains the data sources and approaches used as well as exploring the results and suggesting how the work could be progressed.
The plausibility ranges are a proof of concept and will initially be used as a quality assurance tool of the population estimates. The excel file, 'PRLA' gives the ranges around the indicative mid-year estimates by local authority.
