Harmonisation Bulletin 07 - 15 August 2011: Release of New and Revised Harmonised Standards

Revisions to the following harmonised standards were ratified by the Heads of Profession for Statistics in July 2011.

The update includes the following amendments and additions:

1. GENERAL HEALTH AND CARERS

The General Health and Carers standard was updated to reflect a change in its status from Secondary to Primary Standard.

Basic questions on long-term illness and disability have been revised and are now included in a new Primary Standard titled ‘Long-lasting Health Conditions and Illnesses; Impairments and Disability’.

2. LONG-LASTING HEALTH CONDITIONS AND ILLNESSES; IMPAIRMENTS AND DISABILITY

This is a new standard that separates long-lasting health conditions and illnesses from General Health and Carers (previously a Secondary Standard).

The new questions take account of the needs of National and European administrations for data continuity and guidelines contained in UK and EU legislation, including the Equality Act and EU-SILC.

The questions are intended as a suite, not all of which has to be used in every situation.
