The UK Statistical Geographies Database provides a consistent knowledge base of the range of geographies which are used across National Statistics.
It aims to help control the process of creating new statistical geographies, improve the quality of geographic information data flows, and act as a useful reference tool.
The database is released in April and October each year.
It should be noted that not all geographies included in the database are supported by the Office for National Statistics.
Where relevant the code ranges for some statistical geographies are in the nine character format, in line with the GSS Coding and Naming policy, implemented from January 2011.

The UK Statistical Geographies Database is an MS Access 2007 database. NOTE: When using MS Access 2007 an Information bar appears warning that certain content in the database has been disabled. To rectify this click on the Options button next to the warning message and then the radio button 'Enable this content'.
There is also an MS Excel version with reduced functionality.
