Census geography lookup products

ONS Geography provides a range of products to define names and codes and the relationships between geographies. These products give information on the relationship between 2011 output areas and other geographies and the changes between 2001 and 2011 output areas.

They also provide standard area measurements for 2011 output areas and show the relationship between postcodes collected as part of the 2011 Census and a range of geographies. Information on the relationship between workplace zones and a range of other geographies is also available. Workplace zones are a new geography to support the production of statistics on the working population.

All 2011 Census estimates for all geographies are best–fitted from output areas in line with the Geography Policy for National Statistics.

Please note that the majority of products cover England and Wales and some cover England only. Please contact Scotland and Northern Ireland through their respective websites to obtain data for these countries.

All lookup files contain nine character codes in line with the Geography Policy for National Statistics.
