Due to the breadth and depth of the 2011 Census results, the statistics on the main resident population base (usual residents) are being released in four stages. An overview of the content of each release, and their phased geography, is available to download.
-
First release 16 July - November 2012: Age and sex, and occupied households estimates for England and for Wales; Information about second addresses by age, sex, and type of second address.
-
Second release 11 December 2012 – March 2013: Key and Quick statistics.
-
Third release May 2013 – July 2013: Detailed Characteristics, Theme and Armed Forces.
-
Fourth release August 2013 – October 2013: Local Characteristics.
Statistical commentary will appear alongside every major release of 2011 Census statistics. This will provide description and context around each topic, provide comparability to the 2001 Census outputs, and highlight further sources of information where applicable. A statistical bulletin will accompany each stage of release of 2011 Census statistics.
2011 Census statistics will be accompanied by appropriate reference material to ensure that terms and concepts are defined and data are placed in context.
Changes in the population will also be shown through ONS data visualisations. Visualisation provides an easily accessible way to identify key changes and compare results across geography and/or through time.
Other statistics, for example specialist products and statistics on alternative population bases, will be released subsequently. In time, more detailed products will be available under special agreement (for example microdata samples and flow-data). Access arrangements and agreements will be published as soon as they are available.
The planned tables may be subject to redesign before release, as a result of the application of statistical disclosure control.
