ONS is dedicated to protecting the confidentiality within birth and death statistics. The guidance Disclosure Control Policy for Birth and Death Statistics sets out guidance for the release and publication of tables based on ONS birth and death registration data for England and Wales. It gives guidance on, and examples of, the circumstances in which disclosure control is required and is intended for use by ONS staff and those in other organisations involved in publishing birth and death registration data, either in the form of a statistical bulletin, research article, response to a customer request for bespoke data (including Freedom of Information requests and responses to Parliamentary Questions) or if designing an open dataset.
The guidance Disclosure Control Policy for Birth and Death Statistics: Briefing Note has been superseded. However, the Briefing Note remains available to download to show how the ONS disclosure control policy for births and deaths was applied to tables that were published between the years 2007 (for the data year 2006) and 2013.
