Disclosure Control Guidance for Birth and Death Statistics

ONS is dedicated to protecting the confidentiality within birth and death statistics. The Disclosure Control Guidance for Birth and Death Statistics document sets out guidance for the release and publication of tables based on ONS birth and death registration data for England and Wales. It is intended for use by ONS staff and those in other organisations involved in publishing birth and death registration data. This may be for a:

  • statistical publication

  • research article

  • response to a customer

  • Freedom of Information request

  • Parliamentary Question

  • open dataset.

The Briefing Note has been superseded, but remains available to show how the ONS disclosure control policy for births and deaths was applied to tables published between 2007 (for the data year 2006) and 2013.
