"Engagement Index up, but more to do to improve employee engagement in ONS"
One of the tools used to manage employee engagement in the Civil Service is the People Survey. The People Survey took place between 1 October - 31 October 2012 and and was completed by over 297,000 across 97 organisations in the Civil Service.
The ONS results from the 2012 People Survey are available below. Some of our key headlines are:
-
ONS's Employee Engagement Index for 2012 was 57%, an increase of one percentage point from 2011.
-
A total of 71% of ONS staff took part in the 2012 survey, an increase of 4% compared with 2011.
-
The top three drivers of engagement in ONS are leadership and managing change, my work and my line manager.
-
Results highlight some of the areas we have made good improvements - results within the theme of learning and development are good and more people than last year say they are proud to work in ONS and would recommend ONS as a good place to work.
-
It is clear in other areas we have work to do to bridge the gap between us and OGDs - results within leadership and in particular SCS visibility and leading and managing change have not improved since 2011.
Actions
Our Executive Leadership Team have discussed the results and are putting plans in place to respond to those key drivers of engagement identified in this year's People Survey. Deputy Directors across ONS are also responding to results at a local level in order improve levels of engagement in their business areas.
