Accessing the Virtual Microdata Laboratory (VML)

Research applications for the VML go through four stages:

• researchers send in an application form
• the application needs to be approved by the Office for National Statistics (ONS) and by any other relevant data providers
• contracts are drawn up and signed
• training is given, if necessary

Once all these stages have been passed, researchers can book time in the VML and start using the data.
