Improving Dissemination Programme

In order to extend the reach and the use of ONS statistics, and to support the Government’s Digital by Default agenda, ONS wants to better meet the needs of our users.

The Improving Dissemination Programme (IDP) has been set up to deliver improvements in how we present our statistics online. The programme is working with business areas across ONS, the UK Statistics Authority and partners to produce engaging and relevant content to reach a broad range of users, including those without specialist expertise who want to make use of statistics without undertaking significant analysis. IDP sets out to achieve:

  • An excellent website at the core of a growing range of other dissemination channels.

  • More inclusive formats - charts, context, topical commentary, visualisations, specialist trackers.

  • Better access to our underlying data in ways which make it easier to re-use.

  • Closer relationships with third-parties who’ll add value to our statistics and help us reach the wider public.

In order to help deliver this programme there are five distinct workstreams:

  • Improved user journeys.

  • Creating digital products.

  • User insight and communication.

  • Content syndication.

  • Strategy and website business model.
