Beyond 2011 Research Conference 2014

Date: From 20 May to 21 May 2014
Time: Begins 12.00pm Tuesday 20 May. Ends 12:30pm on Wednesday 21 May
Location: ONS Titchfield offices - Segensworth Road, Titchfield, Hampshire. PO15 5RR

The National Statistician made her recommendation on the future of census and population statistics on 27 March 2014. The programme of research work required to take forward the recommendation will be the focus of this year's research conference, which follows on from last year's successful event in Southampton.

The conference has two key purposes:

  1. To provide an update on where research has taken us,

  2. To look forward to the programme of statistical and operational research now being planned for the future.

We have already identified an extensive list of research topics that will need to be taken forward over the next few years. We aim to use the conference to review and refine this list - but also to identify opportunities for others to help, or work in partnership with us, on it. It's a big list and we are keen to identify common interests and links with other work going on elsewhere.

Delegates may attend on either or both days of the event.

Day 1 will include an update on the research and key findings to date and an introduction to the statistical issues and research questions going forwards.

Day 2 will explore some of the challenges and opportunities for the next phase of the research and look further at the key statistical issues to be tackled.

This time the Research Conference is being run alongside our annual International Review Panel - which brings together experts from Australia, New Zealand, USA and Canada as well as a range of European countries.

We will be asking some of these international attendees to contribute to a session on innovative international work to be run on the afternoon of the Wednesday. You would be very welcome to stay on for this session if you wish - please book separately if you wish to attend.

To register online, and for further details including the full agenda, hotel suggestions and terms and conditions please see our EventManager account.

Registration closes: 25th April 2014.
