ONS has a number of datasets that underpin its work; these are not published as a matter of course but are available directly from the business area. |
|
|
ONS provides a range of services through which customers can apply to gain access to these data. Access to microdata and disclosive data (data which has the potential to identify an individual) requires the approval of the ONS Microdata Release Procedure (MRP) before the data can be provided |
Commissioned Services
| National Statistics Postcode Products |
The ONS Postcode Directory (ONSPD) is a key ONS Geography product and is used by a variety of customers, including central and local government, private industry and academia. It links all current and terminated UK postcodes to the administrative, health and other geographic areas in which each postcode falls. The National Statistics Postcode Look-up (NSPL) should be used by producers of National Statistics to allocate their source statistics at postcode level to a wide range of higher geographies. The NSPL does this by allocating UK postcodes to Output Areas (OA). These OAs are then referenced to a wide range of higher geographies, for example local authorities, by a best-fit methodology that uses 2001 Census population data. The data is supplied free of charge under Open Government Licence terms (plus Land & Property Services end user licensing covering NI data). Where Data is currently supplied via CD / DVD the ONS corporate charge to supply this media type applies. |
