ONS produces a huge range of data which are of interest to a wide audience.
To support the Government’s objective to publish an increased range of government data, ONS aims to achieve the widest possible dissemination and use of official statistics by taking better advantage of the opportunities afforded by the web and associated technologies.
The Web Data Access project has been established to help achieve this goal by developing tools which provide improved and easier access to our data. The project will:

make ONS data available, including 2011 Census data

allow users to access data through an online data explorer

allow machine-to-machine communication of ONS datasets through a public API (Application Programming Interface)

enhance the ONS website
