Request
For the period 2000 to 2010 could you please state how many conceptions to girls aged under 16 took place? Could you break this down into girls aged 15, aged 14, aged 13 and those aged under 13.
For the same time period 2000 – 2010 please provide the same data but as an amalgamated figure showing the total conceptions for girls in each age band. However, in this case because the numbers will be greater please provide a breakdown by age going down by individual age band (eg 12, 11 etc) until the cell value becomes less than 10.
Response
The attached table contains annual conception statistics for 2000-2010 for England and Wales, broken down by age of mother into the following bands; under 16, 15, 14, 13 and under 13.
Conception statistics include pregnancies that result in:
-
one or more live- or stillbirths (a maternity)
-
a legal abortion under the Abortion Act 1967 (an abortion)
They do not include miscarriages or illegal abortions.
