The Office for National Statistics produces quarterly estimates of public sector employment in the UK. Estimates are provided for total public sector employment and also for sectors, industries and regions. These statistics can be found in the Public Sector Employment release.
Improvements to the way employment in public sector education in England is estimated are proposed. These improvements are expected to be implemented in the December 2012 release covering estimates for September 2012. At this time the entire Public Sector Employment series will be open to revision in line with the revisions policy. Further details of the new method and the impact on estimates of Public Sector Employment will be provided alongside the publication of the new estimates.
