The expanded 'National Statistics Protocol on Statistical Integration and Classification'

Opening date: 25 May 2007
Closing date: 17 August 2007
Department: Office for National Statistics
Category: General

The Office for National Statistics held a 12-week public consultation to invite views on its proposed expansion of the existing Protocol on Statistical Integration. A copy of the expanded Protocol is linked from this page. As its title suggests, the redraft incorporates additional material on Statistical Classification and, in particular, the classification of sectors and transactions within the National Accounts.

We welcomed comments on any aspect of the expanded Protocol but we were particularly interested to hear views on whether the Protocol addresses the right issues, and whether it will provide a sufficient basis for judging the degree to which official statistics comply with the relevant principles in the European Code of Practice and the National Statistics Code of Practice. In so doing, commentators were asked to bear in mind that, in the fullness of time, we may need to alter the text of the Protocol to reflect the provisions incorporated within the Statistics and Registration Service Act.

For ease of reference, the expanded Protocol is presented for download in two parts. The first document contains the main body of the Protocol and shows proposed additions to, and deletions from, the existing text. The second document is a completely new section which covers classification arrangements within the National Accounts.

This consultation is now closed - a report on the findings can be downloaded from this page.
