Statistical use of our own administrative or management sources
The only management information owned by the ONS that feeds into statistical products is the personnel information held on our enterprise resource planning system (ERPS).
The main administrative purpose of this system is to hold ONS information on financials, HR (including the field force), procurement and expenses.
Various information feeds into the ERPS; these include:
Field Information Management System (FIMS)
Cost and Time System (CATS)
Reports from this system include:
COINS return to Treasury (Financial) – monthly
Cabinet Office sickness absence return – quarterly
Chartered Institute of Public Finance and Accountancy (CIPFA) Public Sector benchmarking – annual
Treasury benchmarking of back-office functions – annual
Quarterly Public Sector Employment (QPSE) – quarterly
Senior Civil Service (SCS) survey – biannual
Annual Civil Service Employment Survey (ACSES) – annual
Statistical use of other organisations' administrative or management sources
The Administrative Data Catalogue lists the data we use in compiling statistical outputs. It is under constant review as the ONS use of such sources changes over time.
Please see the download section for a list of administrative data sources.
Further quality information on administrative data used by our outputs can be found in the relevant Quality and Methodology Information (QMI) documents.
The QMIs include information on quality audits and procedures for taking account of the implications for official statistics when changes to administrative systems are contemplated.
