Quarterly Survey of Pension Funds

Survey at a glance

Purpose

Quarterly financial transactions surveys cover long-term and general insurance companies,
pension funds, unit trusts, property unit trusts and investment trusts.

Details provided include the acquisition and realisation of financial assets (investments) and other balance sheet information.

These are complemented by annual balance sheet surveys which provide estimates for the
value of assets and liabilities at the end of the calendar year.

Results from these surveys are published in the quarterly Investment by Insurance Companies, Pension Funds and Trusts (MQ5) Statistical Bulletin.

The data is supplied to National Accounts customers for use in the compilation of the quarterly financial
transactions accounts, financial balance sheets and the balance of payments.

Quarterly and annual income and expenditure surveys to insurance companies and a quarterly survey to pension funds provide estimates of trading profits, pension contributions and benefits and investment income which are used by National Accounts customers in the compilation of Gross Domestic Product, sector accounts and balance of payments.

Results appear in the Blue Book, Pink Book and Investment by Insurance Companies, Pension Funds and Trusts (MQ5) Statistical Bulletin.
