This methodology has been developed as part of Phase 2 of the Migration Statistics Improvement Programme. The research report (1.18 Mb Pdf) describes the methodology and the data used, as well as some of the alternative methods that were investigated.
This is supported by two Excel files available in the download section. 'STM LA Estimates' gives estimates of short-term migrants, workers and students by Region and by local authority.
'STM comparison with admin data' aims to show how the short-term immigration estimates address the difference between long-term immigration and counts from administrative data.
