Health areas

The presentation guidance for health areas sets out the recommended standard for presenting and publishing statistics at regional and sub-regional levels in the UK.

This version of the guidance takes account of the creation of the clinical commissioning groups (CCG), NHS area teams (NHSAT) and commissioning regions (NHSCR) on 1 April 2013 and the abolition of the primary care organisations (PCO), strategic health authorities (SHA) and pan strategic health authorities (PSHA) on 31 March 2013.

The guidance provides the GSS codes implemented on 1 January 2011. It includes the order of presentation, table headings, footnotes, reference to former codes and other information.

There are two annexes available with details of presentation order:

  • Annex A shows the presentation order for all health areas down to CCG

  • Annex B provides current nine-character GSS codes for health areas

You can download the guidance document (PDF) and MS Excel and CSV versions of the annexes free of charge as a zip file from the Open Geography portal.
