This product is part of the set of Small Area Population Estimates (SAPE). It includes mid-year population estimates for PCOs in England by age and sex. PCOs are the lower level of the current health administration in England, reporting to Strategic Health Authorities (SHAs). PCO population estimates are consistent with local authority, regional and national population estimates.

The Mid-year Population Estimates analysis tool provides key information and analyses of the population based on data published annually by the Office for National Statistics (ONS). This workbook contains the population statistics for the lastest published year of estimates, and selected previous years, to provide more detailed analyses. Figures are available for a variety of geographic regions, including 376 Local and Unitary Authorities (LA / UA), 10 Government Office Regions (GOR), 2 countries (England and Wales), and for England and Wales as a whole. Population estimates for England and Wales at national level have been revised in light of the 2011 Census. The revised estimates were published on 13 December 2012 and supersede the estimates in these tables. The revised estimates are available on our website. Details of planned revision dates for sub national and UK level estimates can be found on the UK Statistics Authority Release Calendar.

Mid 2002 population estimates are available at national level by single year of age and sex and subnationally (local authority/health area) by five year age group and sex. These include additional selected age groups and broad components of population change. The Population Estimates reflect the local authority administrative boundaries that were in place for the reference year of the tables. Definition of resident population: The estimated resident population of an area includes all people who usually live there, whatever their nationality. Members of UK and non-UK armed forces stationed in the UK are included and UK forces stationed outside the UK are excluded. Students are taken to be resident at their term time address. Population estimates for England and Wales at national level have been revised in light of the 2011 Census. The revised estimates were published on 13 December 2012 and supersede the estimates in these tables. The revised estimates are available on our website.
