Beyond 2011: Producing Socio-demographic Statistics

This paper focuses on the production of socio-demographic statistics (population & household characteristics such as ethnicity or car ownership). An integrated design is proposed bringing together administrative data with data collected directly via a survey to deliver outputs of the required quality.

This paper provides an updated overview and brief explanation of the options under consideration and a summary of progress in drawing a shortlist of the options to be taken forward. It revises the thinking in the original Options Explained paper to take account of recent research.

Beyond 2011: Exploring the Challenges of Using Administrative Data

This paper examines the statistical challenges associated with using administrative sources to estimate the size of the population. The key issues for coverage assessment are discussed and approaches to over-coverage adjustment and coverage survey design are also explored.
