Open any newspaper on any day of the week and you are likely to find numerous articles quoting figures compiled by GSS statisticians.

The Government Statistical Service is the UK’s largest provider of statisticians, with over 1200 professionals in more than 30 departments and agencies, making valued input to every major government activity.

You'll need an appreciation of statistics, the drive and determination to train as a professional statistician and a desire to make a career in statistics.

Applications from those whose degrees contain formal statistical training are particularly welcome. 

To be eligible, you will be numerate, will have received training in statistical theory and methods, and can demonstrate your skills and experience in a range of statistical competences. 

You will normally hold a first or second-class honours degree in a numerate discipline (eg. statistics, mathematics, psychology, economics, sciences, business studies or geography). Candidates with appropriate experience who hold a minimum of the RSS Higher Certificate or equivalent will also be considered.
