These are the most frequently asked questions concerning jobs at the GSS.
Final-year students will usually start within about a month of graduation. However, we can only make a formal offer of appointment when we receive confirmation of your degree results and have completed all of our enquiries. You are normally asked to call in to your department in advance to talk over a start date to suit both parties and general content of your job.

Of course. The diversity on offer is one of our biggest attractions. Changing departments opens the doors to new skills, diverse opportunities, broader knowledge and continuous career development. The GSS expect to have vacancies in most departments. The majority are in London but there are likely to be a number in Edinburgh, Newcastle, Cardiff, Newport, Bath, Titchfield, Sheffield, Darlington, Leeds, York, Southend and High Wycombe.

Candidates who require adjustments (as defined in the 1995 Disability Discrimination Act) can opt for exemption from the online tests and will go forward to consideration at the Application Assessment (AA) stage. If successful at the AA stage, candidates will be invited to attend a Familiarisation Day to help prepare for the Fast Stream Assessment Centre. See Application Steps on Application Process Page.
