Eligibility

Nationality

You must be a British or Commonwealth national, a citizen of the Irish Republic, or a European Economic Area national. If you are from outside these areas you must have a valid working visa.

Retirement age

The maximum retirement age is 65, although it is possible to retire at any age between 60 and 65. If there are six months or less to your 65th birthday, the Office for National Statistics (ONS) reserves the right not to accept your application.

Probation period

Newly appointed staff are required to undertake a probation period of at least 12 months during which attendance, conduct and performance are monitored.
