Office for National Statistics Library Service

Information on 200 years of government statistical publishing.

What resources does the library provide?

The library maintains a unique collection of all statistical and other publications produced by the Office for National Statistics (ONS) and its predecessors (such as the Central Statistical Office and the Office of Population Censuses and Surveys).

A bibliographic database and storehouse of official statistics

Information on these publications and statistical series can be accessed online using Unicorn, the ONS Library's catalogue. This gives information on series produced by ONS and its predecessors since the early nineteenth century. It includes information allowing the user to trace statistical outputs through all their published forms, from their first appearance in print to their modern home on this or other government websites.

Unicorn provides links to significant publications that are difficult to obtain as well as acting as a portal to selected current statistical material held on this and other websites.

Inter-library lending

Many of the resources listed on Unicorn can be loaned through your academic or public library service via appropriate inter-lending schemes. Contact your local library for details.
