Royal Statistical Society (RSS) Conference 2008 East Midlands Conference Centre of the University of Nottingham

RSS conferences alternate year on year between themed and general conferences. RSS 2008 will be a general conference, with a scientific programme aiming to encompass the whole range of statistical interests of the Society, and will include a session on methodology developments for the 2011 Census.

The conference committee is inviting all members of the Society and other statisticians and users of statistics to submit abstracts for contributed papers and posters. Proposals are also invited for contributed sessions which aim to complement the main programme with new or emerging topics - perhaps a new development within statistics or a new area of application.

Further details of the conference and the invitation for contributions can be found on the RSS website.

Keynote speakers at the conference include Ian Diamond, Chief Executive, Economic and Social Research Council Professor  and Denise Lievesley, Special Advisor, United Nations Economic Commission for Africa

Geodemographics in action: Health, Crime, Social Surveys and Migration
Royal Statistical Society, 12 Errol Street, London EC1Y 8LX, UK

The Output Area classification User Group (OACUG) is holding a half day seminar on 15 September  with presentations on actual uses of geodemographics in analysis of health, crime, migration, and surveys,  including the OAC coding of ONS social surveys.

The seminar has been designed to be of particular interest and value to those in the public sector, reflecting the fact that geodemographic was originally developed to help the sector. There is no charge for participation,  but pre registration is necessary.

See more information on the seminar and registration on the OACUG website.

Featuring an event

Contact Census Customer Services if you would like us to feature an event here. Some 6,000 readers receive alerts to new issues of Census News.

Events are featured where they help to promote ONS interests, particularly if ONS is actively involved. There are no hard and fast lines on the inclusion of events, but inclusion of those arranged by commercial organisations may be considered on the balance of usefulness and intended profit.

Further publicity is generally not given to already extensively publicised events unless there is specific Census content.
