The new jobs will support the work now underway to design, plan and rehearse the Census of all households in England and Wales planned for 2011.
Census information provides a rich picture of life in England and Wales each decade. The information is used by central and local government, health authorities, businesses and other organisations to plan housing, education, health and transport.
Ian Cope, 2011 Census Project Director commented 'One of the main uses of Census data is to calculate the money that local authorities are allocated from central government. The number and type of people in a local area determines the amount of money allocated, so we have to make sure we count everyone if we want good information to plan and fund the services needed. We need a really good team to design the procedures to collect data from everyone and then to analyse the data after we have collected it. Our team in Titchfield runs the whole operation for England and Wales - that's a big challenge, but it's great to be part of something that provides the country with such essential information. Most of our employees live on the South Coast, and now we need a lot more!'
