2007 Test questionnaire

The Census Test in England and Wales was held on 13 May 2007, and the questionnaires used were first published in October 2006.

The Test included a range of possible new questions to help inform the final selection process for 2011. A number of existing questions being considered for the 2011 Census, but unlikely to change significantly before then, were excluded to maximize the space available to test the new questions.

Test questionnaire evaluation

Questions included in the 2007 Census Test have been evaluated to assess both the quality of information collected and the public acceptability of the topic. A report of this evaluation is available to download together with copies of the 2007 Test questionnaire and an information paper covering the development of the questions included.

Income question evaluation

The Test included questions about the sources and level of each individual’s (usual resident’s) income. Half of the test participants received a questionnaire that included the income questions. The remaining households received a questionnaire with no income questions. The evaluation of the Test included an assessment of the effect of the income questions on response rates, field operations, the public view of the Census and the quality of the data obtained from these questions. More information about the evaluation, and a full separate evaluation report are available using the related links.
