Mortality records

Mortality records consist of individual records from death registration data, dating from 1959 to present.

Registrars supply details of all deaths to the Office for National Statistics (ONS) each week. ONS processes and tabulates the data, and publishes figures on a weekly, monthly, quarterly and annual basis. The main analysis of mortality data are by age, sex, area of residence and cause of death.

Mortality statistics cover registrations of deaths in England and Wales. Statistics are available for Government Office Regions (GOR), counties/unitary authorities, regional health authorities, district health authorities, counties, local authority districts, wards, and postcode sectors.
