Social survey data
Social Survey data are collected through voluntary surveys conducted by the Office for National Statistics (ONS). The information provided by respondents is known as microdata, or unit record information, and are available to researchers for statistical research and analysis purposes. Social Survey data are also available as tabulations and bespoke analyses.
As well as providing data to the UK Data Archive (UKDA), ONS may also provide access to data that are confidential. These data are primarily used by ONS and the Government Statistical Service (GSS) for statistical research and analysis, but will only be made available to researchers subject to meeting the principles of the National Statistics Code of Practice and Protocols. In addition, as with all releases, access will only be provided where the governing legislation and confidentiality pledge permit.
Information about the different formats in which data can be obtained, and details of how to apply for access can be found in each individual service's description. For further information or advice, please contact the individual service using the contact details provided or, alternatively, refer to the Access to ONS data service .
If you need help or guidance about the best source of data to meet your research needs, or have a general query about Social Survey data, please email: ssdpsb@ons.gsi.gov.uk
