Unpublished data
The Office for National Statistics (ONS) produces statistics from data which are collected from surveys. However, it is the underlying unpublished data, provided by survey respondents, that is a valuable resource sought after by researchers and analysts from both public and non-public organisations and academic institutions.
The data may take the form of microdata (also known as unit record information), aggregated tabular data, commissioned tables, or bespoke datasets.
ONS provides a range of services through which customers can apply to gain access to these data.
Access to microdata and disclosive data,?that is,?data which have the potential to identify an individual record, requires the approval of the ONS Microdata Release Procedure (MRP) before the data can be provided.
Accessing data
Information about the different formats in which data can be obtained and details of how to apply for access can be found in each individual service's description. Funding for research
Researchers who require funding for their research project are advised to contact ONS to discuss their data requirements before applying for funding.
