Costs
New modules on the Opinions survey are costed by question. The final cost to the client varies according to the number of questions and response categories, and whether showcards (response options printed on paper) are required. Discounts are given when a module is only asked of a subsection of the sample. VAT is not paid on Opinions questions.
Following are some of the question formats that are available:
- Multicoded questions
- Questions with showcards
-
Questions that are only asked of a small proportion of the sample

Repeat modules are charged by the average time that they take to administer during fieldwork. Once a module has been run for several months, the cost for running it may change according to the amount of time it represents in the Opinions interview. This is costed at a standard rate per minute basis.
Additional variables that can be added to the data on request are:
- Urban/rural classification (a National Statistics product which classifies output areas and wards as either urban or rural)
- IMD (Index of Multiple Deprivation)
- NUTS2 (Nomenclature of Units for Territorial Statistics)
- SOC coding (Standard Occupational Classification)
- SIC coding (Standard Industrial Classification)
- Recall question and file of names for follow up
Also, the Opinions research team can conduct more detailed analyses, code verbatim answers, and produce interpretative reports. There is an additional cost for these services depending on the complexity and detail required.
