Classificatory variables

The Opinions survey collects a range of both household and individual classificatory variables.

Household variables include (among others):

  • region (Government Office region)
  • number of adults in the household
  • number of children in the household
  • household type
  • housing tenure

Some of the individual demographic variables included are:

  • sex
  • age
  • relationship to household reference person
  • martial status
  • ethnicity

Some of the other individual variables included are:

  • employment status
  • National Statistics Socio-Economic Classification (NS-SEC)
  • income
  • general health
