The Application of Alternative Modes of Data Collection in UK Government Social Surveys

A series of reports from a project conducted in 2009-10 which reviewed methodological and survey management issues relating to the potential for mixed-mode designs in official social surveys, making greater use of telephone, internet and mail modes alongside face-to-face interviewing.

A series of reports and papers from a project to develop and test a survey question on sexual identity, completed in 2009.

This is a special edition of the Survey Methodology Bulletin. It comprises several papers about one project to convert questions on social capital from an interviewer-administered to a self-administered postal format, which incorporated a number of different strands.
