Laura Dubery - Office for National Statistics (ONS)

The RSS Ordinary Certificate has proved to be an excellent way to develop my interest in statistics in a relaxed, friendly environment. I have thoroughly enjoyed the course and have found it useful for both my work and my general knowledge.

There is a good balance of quantitative and qualitative modules, each taught in an easy to follow step-by-step process. The booklet supporting each module has been a great extra help, however I always felt able to approach the teachers for a quick recap! I didn't even mind the homework as it was well spaced and easily fitted into my day.

Jacqueline Toofail - Home Office

I signed up for the RSS Ordinary Certificate as I needed a greater understanding of research methods, data collection and errors in survey work for my job as a research officer. I thought a number of the modules, particularly sampling methods and survey errors would help me advance at work.

The course has proven to be most beneficial in understanding how the different data sources I use are collated and how errors in the data arise and can be dealt with.

I have thoroughly enjoyed the challenge and would recommend it to anyone looking to gain a working knowledge of statistics.

Michael Jones - ONS

I am studying part-time for an MSc in Official Statistics. The course consists of individual units covering the main statistical techniques used within government departments. The topics covered are very diverse, providing an insight into the working practices and statistical applications that underpin National Statistics.

There are representatives from various government departments that attend each module, so networking and sharing of experiences occurs. The combination of all the modules will provide a broad understanding of the working practices of government departments, along with the overall development and commitment in producing National Statistics.

Hannah Falvey – Higher Education Funding Council for Wales (HEFCW)

I enrolled on the MSc course to refresh the statistical knowledge I gained from my undergraduate degree and also to learn in more depth the methods used to collect and analyse data. As well as helping with the work I do as part of my current job, it will enable my career to progress in the future.
