Census
A census is a survey of all people and households in the country. It provides essential information from national to neighbourhood level for government, business, and the community.
The most recent census was on 29 April 2001. Plans are being made to hold the next census in 2011.
The Census Test 2007 took place on 13 May 2007. The Test included approximately 100,000 households from within five local authorities. Processing of all completed questionnaires was concluded on 19 July, and analysis and evaluation of the Test are now underway.
Although the Office for National Statistics (ONS) holds a small number of data covering the censuses in Scotland and Northern Ireland, it is not the source for these data and it is not responsible for the development of future censuses in these countries. Please contact the General Register Office for Scotland (GROS) and the Northern Ireland Statistics and Research Agency (NISRA).
