Life Opportunities Survey

The Life Opportunities Survey (LOS) is a new survey that aims to measure people's use of local facilities, including public transport and health services, and their participation in leisure activities and employment opportunities. It also aims to find out why people don't take part in work or leisure activities that they would like to, or why they may experience difficulties in using public services.

This information will help government departments such as the Department of Health, Department for Work and Pensions, and the Office for Disability Issues to target policies and resources where they are most needed, to improve opportunities for everyone.

Have you taken part in the Life Opportunities Survey?

LOS is a longitudinal survey, which means respondents are interviewed more than once, following a one year interval. If your contact details change during this time, please email LOS@ons.gov.uk stating:

  • your name

  • old and new addresses

  • contact telephone number

  • the names and ages of other household members who have moved with you to this address (if applicable)
