Annual PRODCOM Inquiry

The Products of the European Community (PRODCOM) - is an annual survey collecting sales information from UK businesses in the manufacturing sector. The Office for National Statistics (ONS) uses PRODCOM data in the construction of the Producer Price Index (PPI) , which is a primary measure of inflation, and in the measurement of Gross Domestic Product (GDP) .

PRODCOM data provide government, industry, business and researchers with a powerful tool for market analysis. The Department of Trade and Industry uses PRODCOM to monitor economic activity, particularly the trade in imports and exports. Other users include private industry and researchers interested in finding out about specific products and industries, and businesses wanting to assess trends in their product sectors, market share and overseas trade. At European level, the results provide a measure of the size of the EU market and allow international trade comparisons to be made.
