Jobs in the GSS

Jobs in the Government Statistical Service

The Government Statistical Service (GSS) provides the UK with most of its official statistics. The 1,300 professional statisticians belonging to the GSS are known as the Statistician Group. They are located in over 20 government departments across the UK where they collect, analyse and publish statistics on all aspects of national life.

The statistics produced by the GSS are reported daily on the TV, radio and in the press and are used to shape policies. The economy, environment, education, health, transport, crime, agriculture and trade are just some of the topics covered.

There are two entry grades to the GSS: Statistical Officer (Main Stream) and Assistant Statistician (Fast Stream). For more information on these posts, their locations and details of how to apply, please see the GSS recruitment website.
