Statistics and Registration Service Act 2007 (Disclosure of Pupil Information) England Regulations

Business Case to enable the UK Statistics Authority to access data from the School Census for England held by the Department for Children, Schools and Families.

Issue date: 10 December 2008
Type: Statement

Draft Regulations were laid before Parliament by Kevin Brennan, Cabinet Office Minister, on 10 December 2008 to enable the Department for Children, Schools and Families to disclose information about pupils from the School Census to the UK Statistics Authority (the preferred name for the Statistics Board) in order to improve population statistics. The laying of these Regulations is the first use of the information sharing provisions in the Statistics and Registration Service Act 2007.

No information will be disclosed to the Authority by the Department for Children, Schools and Families until Parliamentary approval is obtained, the regulations are made and both organisations are satisfied that data handling requirements are fully met. This is expected to be in early 2009.
