Statistics User Forum (SUF) Conference - 12 November 2008
This year's annual conference on 12 November is our most important to date. It marks the moment when the prospect of a statistical service meeting the needs not just of government, but anybody using statistics, has been recognised by Act of Parliament.
However, the Act - the Statistics and Registration Service Act (2007) - does not clearly specify how those needs are to be met. Consequently this year’s conference provides the perfect opportunity for both users of statistics and those in the UK Statistics Authority to find common ground. Together, they’ll be able to examine the structures in place to ensure user’s views are identified and evaluated and that the resulting statistical outputs are reliable, trustworthy and relevant.
In our drive to ensure that evidence based decision making becomes a reality, the conference will review the full role and scope of official statistics in a 21st century democracy.
