Children's Dental Health in the United Kingdom 2003: Symposium

12 May 2005, The Congress Centre , 23-28 Great Russell Street, London, WC1B 3LS

The 2003 Children’s Dental Health Survey, commissioned by the four United Kingdom Health Departments, is the fourth in a series of national children’s dental health surveys that have been carried out every 10 years since 1973 in England and Wales and in the whole of the UK since 1983. The survey provides information on the dental health of children in the United Kingdom, measures changes in oral health since the last survey in 1993 and provides information on children's experiences of dental care and treatment and their oral hygiene.

The symposium represented a unique opportunity for practitioners, academics and policy makers to gain a greater understanding of the findings of the 2003 Children’s Dental Health Survey. Leading academics from the fields of paediatric dentistry, dental public health and health psychology, delivered papers at the event and contributed to a panel discussion on the implications of the survey findings for dental public health.

The 2003 Children’s Dental Health Survey was in the field from October to December 2003 and findings to date from the survey have been published.
