Quality strategy

Our vision for quality is to continue being a world leader through innovation: geared for change, and able to deliver more with less while maintaining the high quality of our statistics.

The Office for National Statistics (ONS) Statistical Quality Strategy 2008 - 2012 supports the strategic principles set out in the ONS Visions and Values document and includes the achievement across the entire organisation, of four main goals:

  • produce relevant outputs with up to date metadata and quality information

  • strive to enhance the comparability of our statistical outputs

  • extend the use of standard quality assurance approaches

  • strive to enhance continuous improvement and the use of quality management

The strategy is reviewed annually by the Executive Management Group to ensure that it stays in line with requirements resulting from ONS Independence and any other changes in priorities.
