Public confidence
One of the key objectives of National Statistics is to improve public confidence in official statistics by demonstrating that they are produced to best professional standards and are free from political interference. A greater understanding of the nature of trust and public confidence in statistics is required and this involves identifying what people's views about the trustworthiness of statistics are based on and how to measure them. In the past both the Office for National Statistics (ONS) and the former Statistics Commission worked together on a project to assess the issues underlying confidence in official statistics.
