You asked

I would like to request a spreadsheet showing which MPs in the UK have been receiving the most online abuse between 2023 and 2024 (so far) since there is a general election coming up in the next month.

In the spreadsheet I would like to know their gender, ethnicity, political party, percentage of online abuse they are receiving and which apps the abuse is coming from, for example X or Instagram, if this is possible.

Thank you for your enquiry.

We publish crime data primarily from two sources:

  • Crime Survey for England and Wales (CSEW) – a household victimisation survey that asks respondents about their experiences of crime, regardless of whether the incident was reported to the police;

  • Police recorded crime (from the Home Office) – offences that are reported to and/or recorded by police forces in England and Wales.

For each of these data sources, we are not able to separately identify incidents of online abuse received by Members of Parliament (MPs). The Cabinet Office and/or Home Office may be better placed to help.

If you have any other crime-related queries in the future, you can email crimestatistics@ons.gov.uk.
